New South Wales
St Joseph’s Hospital
St Joseph's Hospital is a public hospital of St Vincent's Health Australia. St Joseph’s has a proud tradition of more than 100 years of providing quality health care in a compassionate and highly personalised atmosphere.
The hospital provides a specialist Multidisciplinary MND Service in conjunction with Westmead Hospital, for people living with MND in Western Sydney. The service delivery model encompasses monthly MND clinics, telehealth, home visits, and if required, inpatient admissions on the Rehabilitation or Palliative Care Unit. The team includes Rehabilitation, Neurology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Palliative Care, Allied Health, Nursing & Pastoral Care.
Macquarie University Hospital
Macquarie University Hospital (MUH) is Australia’s first private not-for-profit teaching hospital on a university campus. Located on the leafy grounds of Macquarie University, we are owned and operated by this leading tertiary institution. The Motor Neurone Disease Service at Macquarie University manages the care of approximately 10% of all MND patients in Australia.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
The ForeFront Multidisciplinary MND clinic was established at the Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney with support from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The Clinic is staffed by a team of specialist neurologists, a clinical nurse consultant, working with local and regional allied health services, clinical psychology and research staff. In addition to neurological review, specialised respiratory and gastroenterology assessments are coordinated on site. The clinic offers dedicated diagnostic services including MRI facilities, clinical neurophysiology and ultrasound. ForeFront facilitates unique opportunities for research innovation and translation, including clinical trial facilities. Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is one of Australia's premier tertiary referral hospitals, part of an integrated network of hospitals recently awarded status as the NHMRC Sydney Health Partners Academic Healthcare and Clinical Translation Centre. The ForeFront Clinic at the Brain and Mind Centre provides multidisciplinary assessment, care plans and ongoing support for people diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and motor neurone disease. We believe the integration of clinical and research practices enables the clinic to implement better care, driven by research innovation and evidence-based medicine.
The Repatriation General Hospital provides the only designated service for people diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in South Australia. The Motor Neurone Disease Clinic offers public and private (Medicare bulk billed) services. Co-located specialist services collaborate to meet the needs of this client group and include Neurology, Palliative Care, Gastroenterology, Sleep Health, Rehabilitation, Prosthetics and Rheumatology.”
Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Clinic at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital (RBWH) commenced in late 2003. External referrals are made to Thoracic/Sleep Medicine services at the Prince Charles Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital, as well as Gastroenterology services. Allied Health services are also referred within the local community.
Barwon Health provides a treatment service for patients with MND through their Day Programs which are part of our local community providing support to people to remain active and independent in their home for as long as possible. Services provided for MND patients include: Primary care services (counselling, diabetic educators, dietetics, physiotherapy, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, speech pathology.
Bethlehem Hospital in Melbourne provides a comprehensive assessment and treatment service for patients with MND. It is staffed by a full team of allied health professionals including, Speech therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Dieticians. The attending physicians include Neurologists, Respiratory Physicians and Psychiatrists.
Fiona Stanley Hospital
Fiona Stanley Hospital is a 783-bed teaching hospital based in the South of Perth. It has comprehensive Neurology and Respiratory services, and runs a multi-disciplinary Motor Neuron Disease Clinic once per week to look after all MND patients living in the South of Western Australia. A neurologist, dietician, speech pathologist, community neurological nurse and MND Care advisor all attend the clinic. It is supported by our neurological physiotherapists as required. A sleep/respiratory MND clinic runs con-currently downstairs. We work closely with the other two MND clinics in Perth to offer the ability to participate in clinical research and clinical trials.
Western Australian Neuroscience Research Institute
The clinic is a joint initiative between the WA Health Department, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and WANRI. multidisciplinary specialised care and support for those with motor neurone disease. The WANRI MND clinic will accept referrals from any doctor, including general practitioners, for diagnosis, a second opinion and/or long-term care, as long as they are within the North Metropolitan Health Service postcodes (essentially all areas north of the Swan River)
